Wide Web Authoring Tools
The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) has developed
software authoring tools to aid non-programmers in developing
multimedia learning materials. The
Study Place is on the World Wide Web (WWW) for distance learning.
Read TV News on the WWW
The Sacramento County Office of Education has partnered with News10
in Sacramento to make topical news items available for adult literacy
classroom use over the Internet. Read
TV News includes some 50 stories that can be read, heard or
viewed online via the use of "streaming media" technology. Learning
activities and assessments featuring these news stories have been
organized into a self-contained online learning resource at www.readtvnews.org.
TV News Literacy Resources CD-ROM
The TV news stories and lessons delivered via the World Wide Web
are being published on a CD-ROM for classroom or community use when
Internet access is unavailable or connection speed is slow.

ALMA
Enhanced Web Site for ABE Learners
The Adult Literacy Media Alliance (ALMA) has completed 20 half-hour
television programs with ancillary print materials that are currently
being broadcast and distributed in different parts of the country.
ALMA is creating an enhanced Web site that builds on the
videos. The Web site will leverage the considerable investment already
made in research and content creation by building on the gallery
of characters and situations developed for the TV series.
Video Series for
ESL Learners
The Los Angeles Unified School District, Division of Adult and
Career Education, has produced a 20-part series of videos and related
print materials for the ESL learner. The product is keyed to California
and other ESL competency standards and reinforces SCANS competencies
and foundation skills as applied to real life situations and concerns.
The English for All video series
is now available on tape and CD-ROM. The CD-ROM is designed to work
seamlessly with the ESL Web site, English for All.

The ESL video series is the basis for the English
for All Web site, a complete online course consisting of interactive
learning activities, print materials, instant Spanish translation
and course management utilities.
