World Wide Web Authoring Tools

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) has developed software authoring tools to aid non-programmers in developing multimedia learning materials. The Study Place is on the World Wide Web (WWW) for distance learning.

Read TV News on the WWW

The Sacramento County Office of Education has partnered with News10 in Sacramento to make topical news items available for adult literacy classroom use over the Internet. Read TV News includes some 50 stories that can be read, heard or viewed online via the use of "streaming media" technology. Learning activities and assessments featuring these news stories have been organized into a self-contained online learning resource at www.readtvnews.org.

TV News Literacy Resources CD-ROM

The TV news stories and lessons delivered via the World Wide Web are being published on a CD-ROM for classroom or community use when Internet access is unavailable or connection speed is slow. Available soon.

ALMA Enhanced Web Site for ABE Learners

The Adult Literacy Media Alliance (ALMA) has completed 20 half-hour television programs with ancillary print materials that are currently being broadcast and distributed in different parts of the country. ALMA is creating an enhanced Web site that builds on the videos. The Web site will leverage the considerable investment already made in research and content creation by building on the gallery of characters and situations developed for the TV series.

Video Series for ESL Learners

The Los Angeles Unified School District, Division of Adult and Career Education, has produced a 20-part series of videos and related print materials for the ESL learner. The product is keyed to California and other ESL competency standards and reinforces SCANS competencies and foundation skills as applied to real life situations and concerns. The English for All video series is now available on tape and CD-ROM. The CD-ROM is designed to work seamlessly with the ESL Web site, English for All.

ESL Web Site

The ESL video series is the basis for the English for All Web site, a complete online course consisting of interactive learning activities, print materials, instant Spanish translation and course management utilities.
